Richard Spendlove MBE (born
Shepperton Surrey 16 June 1939 ) is a Britishradio producer/presenter andwriter . He worked for the formerBritish Railways for 35 years, and in 1963 was appointed Relief Station Master atCambridge , one of the youngest men in that job.Richard retired from the railways at 50 and now works for the
BBC on what is believed to be the longest continually running 'chat show' in the history of British broadcasting. He was awarded the MBE "For Services to Regional and Local Radio Broadcasting".He created and co-wrote with
David Croft the BBC comedy series, "Oh, Doctor Beeching! ", making a guest appearance as the inspector, Mr. Ernest Orkindale.He recorded a tape for the
Norfolk Constabulary giving advice about distraction burglary and callers at your door. The recording of this tape was sponsored by his fan club.Richard Spendlove's programme, broadcast every Saturday at 9pm is the longest running phone-in show anywhere on UK radio. The show has been going for 20 years, where it is broadcast on various BBC local radio stations in the South and East of England:
