Providence Country Day School (often abbreviated to the initials PCD) is a private middle and high school, founded in 1923. Located in East Providence, Rhode Island, United States, it serves approximately 300 students grades 5 through 12. The school colors are red and black, and the school has no religious affiliation. The current headmistress is Susan Haberlandt, who is the first female head of school since it became a co-educational school. [http://pcd.schoolyard.com/pages/sitepage.cfm?page=4963]

Teams

PCD is known for its soccer, lacrosse and Mock Trial teams. The PCD Mock Trial team was the Rhode Island state champion and ranked 37th in the country in 2005 [http://69.93.17.186/test/results2005.cfm] , and in 2006 was defeated by Wheeler School in the Rhode Island state championships. In 2006, the lacrosse team was ranked #1 in the state for the first half of their season, but the team fell victim to a sudden plague of injuries, and were unable to fully bounce back. The team finished in third place in the state.Fact|date=February 2007 This team included 4 All-State players.

PCD also has a very strong soccer program coached by Stacey DeCastro and his sister, Lina Maciel. In the years 2005 and 2006, they won the "Cardinal Diadora Classic", They were the 2007 SENE Champions for the 11th year running. They also won NEPSAC Class C Championships in 2007, winning for the third time in 5 years. Chemistry teacher and head of the high school science department Klaus Amburn has been working on an innovative science program using Flash and NtLog programming.

Theater and Arts

The PCD Players (PCD's theater troupe), presents a musical every spring and another play in the fall. Fall plays are written by a group of students in a summer workshop entitled "Page to Stage." "Page to Stage" has written five scripts, including one work about the Holocaust, "Mourning Light." [http://pcd.schoolyard.com/pages/sitepage.cfm?page=5745] A summer ago, "Page to Stage" wrote a comedic murder mystery that was produced by the PCD Players in November entitled "A Lethal Remembrance" [http://www.eastbayri.com/story/303204614192293.php] This summer, "Page to Stage" is working on a prequel and sequel to a George Bernard Shaw play.

Eco Ecuador Program

Each summer, dean of students Jason Roderick leads a group of PCD students on a month-long trip to Ecuador, which includes a week in the Amazon Rainforest with the Shuar indians and a week in the Galapagos Islands.
