Timothy W. Lynch

Timothy Wyckoff Lynch (born February 7 1970) is one of the earliest Internet television critics (posting reviews to USENET as early as 1988), mostly reviewing Star Trek series (including the movies and some books). He attended Cornell University and the California Institute of Technology. He currently teaches physics classes at Montclair Kimberley Academy in Montclair, New Jersey.

He is known both for his reviews, especially those of ' and ', and for "giving up" on ' and ' due to perceived lack of quality. In total, he has contributed more than 450 episode reviews and season wrap ups for the various shows.

In addition to his online work, Lynch was also a regular book reviewer for the British magazine "TV Zone", from 1998 to 2003 [http://www.visimag.com/tvzone/] . He also wrote the foreword to the book "Net Trek" by Michael Wolff and was a writer for the trivia video game "", released by Sound Source Interactive.

Trivia

* The movie "" featured a character named "Ensign Lynch" who was assimilated by the Borg and then killed by Captain Picard. Tim Lynch has asserted that it is not a reference to him, despite rumors to the contrary [http://peterdavid.malibulist.com/archives/003590.html] . Another character, who appeared in the seventh season "Deep Space Nine" episode "Shadows and Symbols," was named Dr. Wykoff. However Lynch has pointed out that though the character's name is similar to his middle name, it is spelled differently, and has opined that the name is either a coincidence, or a reference to Wykoff Lane, a street near Cornell University, the alma mater of producer Ronald D. Moore.
*Lynch has appeared on the popular television game shows "Win Ben Stein's Money" [http://www.kabrina.com/wbsm/] and "Jeopardy!", though he did not win on either one.
*Lynch is a regular visitor and contributor to author Peter David's blog. [http://peterdavid.malibulist.com/archives/003784.html] [http://peterdavid.malibulist.com/archives/003782.html] [http://peterdavid.malibulist.com/archives/003774.html]
*Lynch is currently a member of the Science Faculty, and advisor to the school newspaper, at the Montclair Kimberley Academy.
