Ross Cowie

Ross Cowie is former shinty player and manager from Portree, Isle of Skye, Scotland.

Throughout his career, Cowie was involved with Skye Camanachd and was manager when they won the Camanachd Cup in 1990 [ [http://www.skyecamanachd.com/Default.aspx.LocID-087new007.RefLocID-087001001.Lang-EN.htm Skye Camanachd website, 14 Feb 2007] ]

Because of a cardiac complaint, cardiomyopathy, Cowie has retired from involvement in the playing side of the sport but has retained a position as president of Skye Camanachd [ [http://www.dailymail.co.uk/pages/live/articles/technology/technology.html?in_article_id=527996&in_page_id=1965 "The Daily Mail", 6 March 2008: "The heart patient whose life could be saved by a gadget linked to a satellite... via Germany"] ]

He is involved in fundraising and raising awareness of cardiac conditions throughout the Highlands of Scotland.

He is affectionately known as "The Colonel".
