"The Age of the Understatement" is the first single released by The Last Shadow Puppets. It was released on April 14, 2008 in the United Kingdom on Domino Records. The song is the title track from the band's debut album "The Age of the Understatement".

The song has been compared to the likes of Streetlight Manifesto and Muse, in particular the songs "We Will Fall Together" and "Knights of Cydonia" respectively. The intro has been compared to Biffy Clyro's "Living is a Problem Because Everything Dies".
