Ginger (born David Walls, 17 December 1964, in South Shields in the North East of England) is a rock guitarist, singer and songwriter, best known for his band The Wildhearts.

Career

Early career

Ginger saw his first success as a member of English band, The Quireboys but after being sacked from them, he went on to form The Wildhearts.

The Wildhearts

ide Projects

Whilst intermittently continuing with various incarnations of The Wildhearts, he has also formed a variety of side projects, including a number of solo albums.

Over the years, these side projects have included:
*Super$hit 666, with Dregen from Backyard Babies and Nicke Andersson from The Hellacopters, releasing "Super$hit 666" E.P. (1999)
*Clam Abuse, with Alex Kane, releasing "Stop Thinking" (1999)
*Silver Ginger 5, releasing "Black Leather Mojo" (originally intended as Ginger's first solo album, ended up being released under the name Silver Ginger 5, with a new band formed to perform the material live, consisting of Conny Bloom (Hanoi Rocks, Electric Boys) - guitar and backing vocals, 'Random' Jon Poole (Cardiacs, The Wildhearts) - Bass and backing vocals and Ritch Battersby (The Wildhearts, Grand Theft Audio) - Drums, with Ginger taking guitar and lead vocal duties). (2000)
*Brides of Destruction with Scott Sorry (Amen, The Wildhearts) and Tracii Guns (L.A. Guns). Ginger never actually played on anything released by the band, but played with them as a guitarist for part of a tour before acrimoniously leaving the band in strained circumstances. He did, however, help write a few songs for their second LP.
*Ginger & The Sonic Circus, releasing Valor Del Corazon (2005) and the single "Yeah, Yeah, Yeah" (split with Howling Willie Cunt's version of The Wildhearts song "Caffeine Bomb")
*Howling Willie Cunt, releasing "World of Filth" (2006) Ginger has never actually admitted that he is Howling Willie Cunt, instead insisting that Howling Willie is another person that he (Ginger) met while in America and that Cunt is signed to another record label, Round Records.
*In mid-2007, Ginger guested as the vocalist for the The Scorchers in place of his hero Jason Ringenberg, billed as "Ginger and The Scorchers" on a few dates in the UK, as opposed to the normal "Jason and The Scorchers". No studio work is to be recorded.

olo career

In early 2001, Ginger set out to release one CD single featuring three new tracks every month for the entire year, in a project known as The Singles Club. This would be the first material released under the name Ginger, and was continued in parallel to tours with Silver Ginger 5 and the recently re-formed Wildhearts. Owing to financial/record company problems at Infernal Records, only 18 tracks were recorded, and only five singles ever released. A compilation of all 18 tracks was released in 2005 as a double album entitled "A Break In The Weather".

Following a brief stint at the start of 2005 as a second guitarist within the Brides of Destruction, Ginger's first proper solo album, "Valor Del Corazon" (Spanish for 'Strength of Heart') was released for fans on 19 December 2005, with an official release on 9 January 2006. It was recorded in 2005 with record producer Ralph Jezzard, and a range of session musicians in Willie Nelson's studio in Texas.Valor is a Two Disc CD featuring songs such as 'This is only a Problem' and 'Yeah, Yeah, Yeah' and was heavily praised in the press, leading Ginger to headline the Gibson Stage at the Download Festival in June 2006.

Prior to the "official" solo follow-up to "Valor Del Corazon", Ginger also released the country album "World of Filth" under the name Howling Willie Cunt [The Sun newspaper, 26 January 2007, Interview with Ginger [http://www.thesun.co.uk/article/0,,2006140003-2007040321,00.html] ] before his next solo offering, "Yoni", which was released once again to critical acclaim 22nd January 2007.

Following Japanese, UK & US tours in 2007 with the newly reformed Wildhearts (who released a new album also in April 2007), the end of the year saw Ginger living in New York and once again playing as solo performer in addition to his Wildhearts commitments.

A new solo album 'Market Harbour' was released in early 2008: Ginger also played some acoustic gigs in the UK featuring Scott from America who isn't Scott Sorry contrary to what earlier rumours may have been.
