The lingual branches of hypoglossal nerve are small branches of the hypoglossal nerve which provides taste and touch sensation from the 1/3 of the tongue . The anterior 2/3 are supplied with sensory information bychorda tympani and the lingual nerve, which is named similarly but is a branch of CN V3. The muscles of the tongue are supplied by CN XII.
