Shiulie Ghosh (born September 28,1968) is a Doha-based television journalist for Al Jazeera.

She obtained a degree in Law from the University of Kent before joining Radio Cleveland as a Programme Assistant. In 1990 she was accepted as BBC News Trainee and worked in various posts at the BBC before joining the ITV News in 1998. In 2001 she was named Best Television News Journalist at the British Telecom Ethnic Multicultural Media Awards (EMMA).

In July 2006, it was announced that Ghosh was to leave ITV News to join al-Jazeera's much-delayed English-language service, Al Jazeera English. [ [http://media.guardian.co.uk/broadcast/story/0,,1826189,00.html Ghosh to join Al Jazeera] ]

Shiulie is an anchor for Al Jazeera English, and was the opening anchor on the channel's launch in Doha on 15th November 2006. She also hosts Every Woman, a show focusing on women's issues from around the world.

Personal life

* Ghosh is married to Simon Torkington, a BBC News editor, and the mother of a daughter, Maya. A recent spoof film was made by Simon's colleagues as a tribute to him, because he is embarking on a new life in Qatar with Shiulie, who is referred to in much of the video. It has caused controversy at the BBC, some claiming BBC licence payer's money is abused.
