In 1977, he won the Flyweight High School Division of the Miami Golden Gloves Tournament. Drane's amateur career was from 1977-1982. He competed in 5 Golden Gloves Tournaments, and in the February, 1982 tournament, he defeated Sherman Bergman who was 17-2 (17 knockouts). Turned pro on November 11, 1982 against Santiago Nava in Hialeah, Florida. Drane worked as a police officer with the City of Miami Police Department. His professional boxing career spanned 3 decades and ended on Jan. 31, 2003.
