Radiodifusión Argentina al Exterior (RAE) (English: "International Service of Argentine Radio") is Argentina's state-owned international broadcaster, which utilises shortwave.

History

RAE was founded "Servicio Internacional de la República Argentina" (SIRA, Argentine Republic's International Service), on 11 April 1949, by then President Juan Perón. SIRA broadcasted 24 hours a day in seven languages.

After September 1955's "coup d'état" which removed Perón, SIRA was shut-down. The station started to broadcast again on 12 February 1958 under the new name of "Radiodifusión Argentina al Exterior'", roughly translated as "Argentine International Broadcasting". RAE is operated by LRA1 Radio Nacional, Argentina's official broadcaster.

The shortwave transmitter is located in Pacheco, near Buenos Aires.

Present

RAE's programs focus on Argentine news, and culture, geography and history, among other things. Music broadcasted by RAE include all kind of Argentine songs - from Folklore to Tango and Argentine Rock.

The station has programs in the following languages: Spanish, German, French, English, Italian, Portuguese and Japanese.

RAE also broadcasts some programs from its mother radio Radio Nacional, so that Argentines in the diaspora can get in touch with their country. Among them, "Panorama Nacional de Noticias" (news show) and football matches.
