He was a member of theSpecial Committee on Reconstruction and Re-establishment , during the19th Canadian parliament . He was re-elected as a Progressive Conservative in 1945 and again in 1949. Prior to his federal political experience, he was elected to theLegislative Assembly of Nova Scotia in 1925 as a Member of theConservative Party of Nova Scotia to represent theelectoral district of Cumberland County. He was appointed as Nova Scotia's Minister of Highways.
