Guest presenter

Guest presenter

:"Not to be confused with Guest host."

A guest presenter is a presenter who presents a television or radio programme in place of the regular presenter if they are, for example, ill or have other commitments. Although guest presenters are often undesirable, some shows have seen the guest presenter do a better job than the main one, and filling in as a guest presenter has helped to launch the careers of a variety of television and radio talents.

Some shows, such as "Have I Got News For You", have guest presenters on a permanent basis, when the presenter changing for each show since Angus Deayton's departure from the show. Some shows also have guest presenters more often than not, for example "The Jack Docherty Show" in the late 1990s, where Docherty more often that not had a fill-in. The frequency of guest presenters on certain shows has been parodied by the Onion News Network's Clifford Banes character, whom never presents his show, and is always replaced by a guest presenter with often obscure reasoning.
