West Easton is a borough in Northampton County, Pennsylvania, United States. West Easton is located in the Lehigh Valley region of the state, in the greator Easton area.

The population of West Easton was 1,152 at the 2000 census.

History

West Easton was incorporated as a borough on June 6, 1898.

Geography

West Easton is located at coor dms|40|40|42|N|75|14|10|W|city (40.678298, -75.236144)GR|1.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the borough has a total area of 0.3 square miles (0.9 km²), of which, 0.3 square miles (0.8 km²) of it is land and 0.04 square miles (0.1 km²) of it (8.82%) is water.

Demographics

As of the censusGR|2 of 2000, there were 1,152 people, 452 households, and 312 families residing in the borough. The population density was 3,678.9 people per square mile (1,434.8/km²). There were 482 housing units at an average density of 1,539.3/sq mi (600.3/km²). The racial makeup of the borough was 95.31% White, 1.91% African American, 0.09% Native American, 1.04% Asian, 0.87% from other races, and 0.78% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 3.73% of the population.

There were 452 households out of which 33.4% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 50.7% were married couples living together, 12.8% had a female householder with no husband present, and 30.8% were non-families. 25.4% of all households were made up of individuals and 8.2% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.55 and the average family size was 3.04.

In the borough the population was spread out with 25.0% under the age of 18, 7.7% from 18 to 24, 32.1% from 25 to 44, 21.4% from 45 to 64, and 13.7% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 38 years. For every 100 females there were 95.6 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 95.9 males.

The median income for a household in the borough was $39,615, and the median income for a family was $48,393. Males had a median income of $35,288 versus $25,781 for females. The per capita income for the borough was $17,901. About 9.5% of families and 9.9% of the population were below the poverty line, including 11.2% of those under age 18 and 9.0% of those age 65 or over.

Public education

The Borough is served by the Wilson Area School District.
