Frances Erskine Inglis

Frances Erskine Inglis was born in Edinburgh, Scotland, in 1804 and died in Madrid, Spain, in 1882. She was Marquess of Calderón de la Barca.

She met Ángel Calderón de la Barca, whom she married in 1838. They lived in México until 1842. She was widowed in 1861. In 1876 Alfonso XII gave her the title of Marquess.

Frances Erskine Inglis is best-known for her book "La Vida En México Durante Una Residencia De Dos Años En Este País" (Life in Mexico, During a Residence Of Two Years In That Country) [ [http://digital.library.upenn.edu/women/calderon/mexico/mexico.html] ] [ [http://onlinebooks.library.upenn.edu/webbin/gutbook/lookup?num=9364] ] published under the name of Madame Calderón de la Barca in Boston and London in 1843. She also wrote "El Agregado En Madrid O Bocetos De La Corte De Isabel II" (1856).

"La Vida En México Durante Una Residencia De Dos Años En Este País" is a classic in its genre.
