Canyon Ceman (born
June 21 ,1972 inHermosa Beach, California ) is a retiredbeach volleyball player from theUnited States , who won the silver medal at the 1997 World Championships inLos Angeles, California , partneringMike Whitmarsh .Ceman won 8 tournaments with 4 different partners, and reached the #1 ranking in the US in 2000 and 2001, during a 15 year career (1994-2008). He was named the 2000 "Most Outstanding Player", "2002 AVP Best Setter" and won an award for Special Achievement in 1997. His best international finish was a second place with Whitmarsh at the 1997 FIVB Beach Volleyball World Championships. He became the 15th American to reach $600,000 in career domestic earnings in 2006.
Ceman was inducted into the Stanford Athletic Hall of Fame in 2007. He was a four-year starter for the
Stanford Cardinal , was theAVCA National Player of the Year in 1993, and was a three-timeAll-American . He played professionally in aBelgium indoor league (1995-96) after spending a season with the USA Men’s National Team (1994-95).Ceman has a bachelor’s degree in
Economics (1993) and a Master’s inSociology (1994) fromStanford University . He also has an MBA from UCLAAnderson. He received the 1990 Karch Kiraly Scholarship for academic and athletic excellence as the valedictorian of his graduating class at Manhattan Beach's Mira Costa High School. Ceman was the youngest player to compete at the1991 Summer Universiade and the1991 Pan American Games .References
