Ethiopia . Located on the southern rim of the gorge of theMofar River , in the Semien Shewa Zone of theAmhara Region , this town has a latitude and longitude of coord|09|58|N|39|38|E|region:ET-AM_type:city(2707)|display=inline,title with elevations variously given as 2880 and 2915 meters above sea level. It is the administrative center ofMafud Mezezo Mojana woreda .Based on figures from the Central Statistical Agency in 2005, Sela Dingay has an estimated total population of 2,707 of whom 1,435 were males and 1,272 were females. History
According to
Antonio Cecchi , Sela Dingay was founded byWossen Seged in 1804, naming the town after the historic district of Sela Dingay, although the local Debre Mitmaq church had been founded by EmperorZara Yaqob , where he convened theCouncil of Debre Mitmaq in 1450 which resolved a rift in theEthiopian Church over the observance of theSabbath . In any case, Negus Wossen Seged built a second church for the town.
