Burnham is a borough in Mifflin County, Pennsylvania, United States. The population was 2,144 at the 2000 census.

Geography

Burnham is located at coor dms|40|38|6|N|77|33|53|W|city (40.635137, -77.564678)GR|1.

Demographics

As of the censusGR|2 of 2000, there were 2,144 people, 919 households, and 601 families residing in the borough. The population density was 2,012.4 people per square mile (773.6/km²). There were 983 housing units at an average density of 922.7/sq mi (354.7/km²). The racial makeup of the borough was 99.21% White, 0.33% African American, 0.14% Asian, and 0.33% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.33% of the population.

There were 919 households out of which 28.9% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 53.4% were married couples living together, 8.5% had a female householder with no husband present, and 34.6% were non-families. 30.8% of all households were made up of individuals and 15.0% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.33 and the average family size was 2.91.

In the borough the population was spread out with 22.5% under the age of 18, 6.4% from 18 to 24, 29.5% from 25 to 44, 25.0% from 45 to 64, and 16.7% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 40 years. For every 100 females there were 94.4 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 87.4 males.

The median income for a household in the borough was $33,068, and the median income for a family was $40,781. Males had a median income of $32,131 versus $17,850 for females. The per capita income for the borough was $15,800. About 6.4% of families and 7.0% of the population were below the poverty line, including 7.0% of those under age 18 and 6.0% of those age 65 or over.
