Valdemar "Val" Teixeira (born 26 April 1977 in Lisbon) is a Portuguese professional footballer, currently playing for Chesterfield in Football League Two in England.

He began his career playing for Amora FC in Portugal at the age of 6. At age 13, Teixeira was called up by Carlos Queiroz, Portugal's National Team coach at the time (currently Portugal coach) to represent Portugal U-13 in a Mini World Cup Tournament in Lisbon at the National Stadium. At the age of 15, Teixeira received the honours again to represent Portugal in a Tournament in Viseu (Portugal) including 4 teams, Cape Verde Islands, Angola and Mozambique.

At only 16 years of age, he signed a contract with Sport Lisboa e Benfica to play for the Juniors team under the management of Professor Jose Morais. In August 1994, Teixeira moved to USA playing for Sommerville High School and helped the team reach the State Finals scoring 28 goals and 14 assists. Teixeira was named Greater Boston League MVP, Boston Herald Athlete of the Year and 1st Team ALL-American. Teixeira decided to attend Newbury College 1 year playing 18 games and finishing the season with 13 goals and 5 assists as a sweeper.

Teixeira's professional career began when he signed a 4 year contract with Rhode Island Stingrays of the USL-2. In 2002 Teixeira returned to Portugal on a loan to play for 2nd Division team GD Sanjoanense returning to USA to finish the season with Rhode Island Stingrays. In 2004 Teixeira signed a 4 year contract with New Hampshire Phantoms of USL-2 where he helped the team reach the semi-finals in 2004 losing to Charlotte Eagles.

Teixeira went on trial with parent club Crystal Palace F.C. in August, 2008. [http://uslsoccer.com/home/272977.html] He wasn't offered a contract at Palace though, with manager Neil Warnock stating: "“He’s done well, he’s got something but we don’t feel he’s going to be just quite right for the Championship at the moment".

He later joined Chesterfield on trial, and scored a hat-trick for their reserve team, which led to him being signed on the 17 September 2008. Coaching career

Val also coached a Junior Varsity Soccer at Stoughton High School. With his help he improved a 1-6-14 team to 8-7-2. he helped the whole team in many ways from agility to striking and the ability of the teams goalkeeper.
