- Kenmore Plantation House
Kenmore Plantation House is a large
plantation house located four miles north of the town ofMaringouin, Louisiana .The plantation's historical significance lies mostly in the area's
petroleum industry, because of the petroleum deposits discovered beneath the grounds of the plantation. However, the house is also of a fairly unique design compared to other large houses built in the same era. The house has undergonerenovations several times since construction. Some alterations include the addition of bathrooms and a prounounced kitchen wing. In the past there was also a large, centraldormer on the front of the house, but its removal was necessary because it began causing severe roof leakage as the house aged and fell into disrepair. Kenmore House remained the center of an activesugarcane plantation until the holdings of the Holloway Planting Company were sold to a railroad company in 1981; However, the Holloway family continued to inhabit Kenmore House until the year2000 and they currently still retainmineral rights .Kenmore Plantation is now home to Triton Farms, a registered Brahman Cattle operation. The same type of cattle that were imported by Richard Barrow in 1854 as an award from the British Government for his assitance with consultation on Sugar Cane Farming. Visit www.tritonfarms.com and www.brahmanjournal.com for more information. A Louisiana Brahman Association field day will be held on the grounds September 27, 2008.
