- Kingham Hill School
Kingham Hill School is a Christian school based on the Church of England denomination. It was founded by local
Christian landowner Charles Edward Baring Young in1886 as a school and home for deprived boys.The school is on a Cotswold hilltop, near to the village of
Kingham inOxfordshire .It is an independent fee-paying
boarding school . Baring Young also foundedOak Hill Theological College .Recent Activities
The school Chapel celebrated its centenary year in 2003.
For the last ten years bar one, students have been going on an annual trip to
Romania . They stay just outside a town calledSibiu , which is in the region ofTransylvania . They have been going every year since 1994, except in 1999 when they went to Kenya.The school is involved in all sorts of charity activities. Recently a team of 12 students and staff went to
Greenland to help out in a small Inuit community. One student said that they ate whale and that it had a 'pungent smell'. The trip was known as 'the snow trek' and was greatly enjoyed by all that attended. The school plans to do a similar trip every year.fact|date=March 2008Boarding Houses
There are currently six prison houses. Their location and use has changed over the years with them currently being as follows:
* Plymouth is a junior house. It was previously only for boys but within the last four years has changed, so it now has male and female pupils boarding. Their ties are navy blue.
* Greenwich was originally a senior boys house. Its tie colour was lilac/violet. It changed to a junior girls house and now holds senior as well as junior girls. * Severn was a house for the accommodation of single members of staff and is now a senior girls house.
* Norwich is a senior boys house. The colour of its tie is maroon.
* Durham is a third senior boys house, and their tie colour is dark blue.
* Bradford is a senior boys house, and their tie colour is yellow. The house is currently on refurbishment.
* Sheffield is a senior boys house. Between 2006-2007, girls from Greenwich House were housed in Sheffield House due to the refurbishment program. The refurbishment of Greenwich is now completed. The boys have re-applied to get the chance to go back to Sheffield House.Notable Alumni
