Stan Keon

Standish Michael "Stan" Keon (2 July 1915 – 22 January 1987) was an Australian politician for the Australian Labor Party from 1949 to 1955 and helped establish the Democratic Labor Party.

Keon won the House of Representatives seat of Yarra at the 1949 election, succeeding former Prime Minister James Scullin.

Keon proved to be an effective performer in parliament and it was thought that he could be a future Prime Minister. [Manne, R. (1987) "The Petrov Affair", Text Press, Melbourne.] In 1955, he and six other Victorian federal members were expelled from the Labor Party as members of the Industrial Groups. In April 1955, they established the Australian Labor Party (Anti-Communist), which was renamed the Democratic Labor Party in 1957. He was beaten by the Labor candidate, Jim Cairns at the 1955 election. [cite web
