Shchuchye, Kurgan Oblast

Shchuchye ( _ru. Щу́чье) is a town and the administrative center of Shchuchansky District of Kurgan Oblast, Russia, located on Lake Shchuchye, km to mi|180 west of Kurgan. Population: 10,702 (2005 est.); ru-census|p2002=10,602|p1989=11,094

It has been known since 1750 as a "selo" (village) and was granted town status in 1945.

A large arsenal of chemical weapons is being stored in Shchuchye.
