During British rule Larkana became headquarters of
Larkana District andLarkana Taluka - and for a time was part of theBombay Presidency of British India.The
Imperial Gazetteer of India , written over a century ago during British rule, describes the taluka as follows: [ [http://dsal.uchicago.edu/reference/gazetteer/pager.html?objectid=DS405.1.I34_V16_150.gifLārkāna Tāluka - Imperial Gazetteer of India, v. 16, p. 144.] ]"Lārkāna Tāluka.- "Tāluka" of Lārkāna District, Sind, Bombay, lying between 27' 27' and 27' 46' N. and 68' 1' and 68' 28'E., with an area of 267 square miles. The population in 1904 was 100,827, compared with 90,15l in 1891. The tāluka contains one town, LĀRKĀRNA (population, 14,543), the head-quarters; and 72 villages. The density, 378 persons per square mile, is the highest in the District. The land revenue and cesses in 1903-4 amounted to 4-2
lakh s. The tāluka is flat and is chiefly watered by the Ghar canal and its, branches. The south-western portion, irrigated by the Western Nara, is said to produce the finest rice in Sind. Wheat is largely grown on the banks of the Indus; and several mango groves and date plantations surround Lārkāna town."Administration
