Ratodero is a Taluka of Larkana District in the Sindh province of Pakistan, the city of Ratodero, founded by Rato Khan Jalbani in the days of Talpur dynasty, is the capital.

History

During British rule Ratodero became a Taluka of Larkana District and for a period part of the Bombay Presidency. The population according to the 1891 census of India was 61,268, which rose to 72,312 at the next census in 1901 [http://dsal.uchicago.edu/reference/gazetteer/pager.html?objectid=DS405.1.I34_V21_265.gifRato-Dero Tāluka - Imperial Gazetteer of India, v. 21, p. 259] ] .

The Imperial Gazetteer of India, compiled in the first decade of the twentieth century, described the Taluka of Ratodero as follows:

"The tāluka contains one town, RATO-DERO (population, 4,281), the head-quarters; and 80 villages. Excepting Larkana, this is the most thickly populated tāluka in the District, with a density of 222 persons per square mile. The land revenue and cesses in 1903-4 amounted to more than 2-9 lakhs. The tāluka is irrigated by the Sukkur, Nasrat, and Ghar Canals. The staple crop is rice. Like other well-irrigated tālukas, Rato-Dero is flat and has few distinctive features. It contains about 104 square miles of`reserved' forest"

The famous personalities of Ratodero spans a very wide range, prominent among them are, Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, Benazir Bhutto, Mir Murtaza Bhutto, Sardar Pir Bux Ghanghro, Dr. Shafqat Soomro.Mr Bashir khan qureshi chairmain of JSQM.

Towns and Villages

Mausedero is is the chief village of the Jalbani tribe of Sardar Masu Khan Jalbani its only 8 kilometres away from Ratodero adjacent to Mirpur Bhutto village of Bhuttos.

Naudero

Naudero is the second most important town of Ratodero Taluka, and has a railway station. It is linked with capital Larkana with a fine road, it is the home town of the Bhutto dynasty,

Garhi Khuda Bakhsh

Garhi Khuda Bakhsh is a village near Naudero. It was founded by Khuda Bakhsh Khan Bhutto. This family has produced many great zamindars and Landlords, Bhutto's father was also from this family.

Village Pir Bakhsh Bhutto

Pir Bakhsh Bhutto is a village near Naudero, found by Doda Khan Bhutto's father Pir Bakhsh Bhutto. Besides there are many administrative offices in the village including Primary school, Middle school, Health Centre, union council and many more. After Doda Khan the persons from his offspring who became famous landlords are Ameer Bakhsh Khan, Ilahi Bakhsh Khan Sardar Wahid Bakhsh Khan. Sardar Wahid Bakhsh khan was an MLO, his son Sardar Pir Bakhsh Bhutto was an active member of Pakistan Peoples Party, and was chairman of District Rural Development Program Larkana. Nawab Nabi Bakhsh khan Bhutto brother of Sardar Wahid Bakhsh khan Bhutto was the member of the Delhi Legislative, and for some period of time as the president of District Local Board Larkano. His son Mumtaz Ali Khan Bhutto has been chief minister of Sindh and federal minister in National assembly.

Bhai Khan Ghanghro

Bhai Khan Ghanghro is located 2 km south of Ratodero Town. The village is the strong hold of the Ghanghro family. Late Sardar Pir Bux Khan Ghanghro was a prominent person yielding influence in the Town of Ratodero.

Bahaman

It is a small village. Famous scholar and politician Pir Ali Muhammad Rashidi and his brother Pir Hisam Uddin Rashidi, a historian and researcher, belong to this village. Their father Pir Hamid Ali Shah Rashidi is the Land Lord of the village.

Panjoo Dero

Adam Shah Kalhoro was awarded a jagir in Larkana by the Commander-in-Chief of Emperor Akbar's forces Abdul Rahim Khan Khanan at the eve of conquering Sindh. In those days Adam Shah Kalohor gifted this area to his devotee Panjoo Khan Abro. At that time there was a village in the west of Panjoo dero, which at the moment is present in the form abandoned mounds. Panjoo khan established a village adjacent tp that ruins, and called it Panjoo dero. There is tomb of Latif Shah Pir where a melo is celebrated every year. Before separation of Indo-Pak the Hindus of this town were actively engaged in the politics.

Bangul Dero

This village was found by Bangul Khan Khoso around a four hundred years ago. There is a High school and a primary school over there.

Wali Muhammad Brohi

This village is the most populated village of one of most influential (Brohi) tribes of Ratodero. Ratodero town is also mostly sorrounded by the people of this tribe.

There are many villages in the fertile agricultural area of Taluka Ratodero, the main villages include… Taib, Zangeja, Bhando Kubo, Pir Jo Goth, Kodrani, Agham, Waris Dino Machhi, Bosan, Wasayo Bhutto, Ghulam Hussain Hakro, Walidad Gabbar, Thull, Lashari, Masoo Dero, Khairo Dero etc.

Ratodero consists of several "Mohallas", notably among them are Mohalla Motan Pur, Fateh Pur, Kande Ji Kund, Hasan Pur, and High School Road.
