Balhinch, Indiana

Balhinch, Indiana

Balhinch is two-mile-square unincorporated area in Union Township, Montgomery County, Indiana, United States.

The Balhinch area was originally settled by William Offield in 1821, 5 miles southwest of Crawfordsville in Section 21 in an area with two streams - Sugar Creek, and Offield's Creek. There is a Monument remembering William Offield near Offield's Creek.

Balhinch includes Rattlesnake Canyon - a 300 foot canyon which was a boon to early settlers because it was full of game.

It was formally plotted in the 1920's and the boundaries were legally defined. [cite book
