Branson Airport (also known as Branson Regional Airport) is a privately owned commercial airport that is scheduled to open in May 11, 2009 south of Branson, Missouri.

The developers who are building it as part of the Branson Creek golf/residential complex to be built on land formerly belonging to Tennessee Ernie Ford claim it will be the first privately owned for profit commercial airport in the United States. The land was then bought by Glenn Patch, a publisher of Computer Shopper and other magazines, in 1990 when he bought 7,000 acres in the area and developed the Branson Creek complex. [http://www.nancysellsbranson.com/News_Releases/page_1940880.html] Patch also owns the franchise for the Dick Clark American Bandstand Theatre in Branson.

The developers have put the naming rights up for sale. [http://articles.directorym.net/AT_BRANSON_UP_GOES_A_TERMINAL_Seattle_WA-r906317-Seattle_WA.html]

The construction of the airport which involves the flattening of several Ozark Mountains is claimed to be the largest earthmoving project in Missouri history. A press release note that between groundbreaking in July 2007 and May 2008 11 million cubic yards of earth have been moved. The $155 million project includes a 7,140 foot by 150 foot runway (Numbered 14/32) and 58,000 square foot terminal designed to accommodate 1.4 million passengers a year. The $155 million cost includes $38 million in private equity and $117 million in tax free bonds underwritten by Citigroup. [http://www.flybranson.com/construction] The high-risk, high-yield bonds (top rate of 6.5%) were issued by the Branson Regional Airport Transportation Development District. [http://www.bloomberg.com/apps/news?pid=20601009&sid=aYd3BKzB9dKU&refer=bond] The City of Branson will pay $8.24 to Branson Airport LLC for each arriving visitor with an annual cap of $2 Million. The overall developer is AFCO. The master designer is Burns and McDonnell Engineering. McAninch Corporation is handling the earth moving operations. [http://www.flybranson.com/aviation]

Plans also call for construction of an 8,000-seat arena and 15,000-seat amphitheater near the ranch. [ [http://www.cityofbranson.org/news/newspdfs/Airport%207-07.pdf City of Branson News Release - July 20, 2007] ]

Currently the closest commercial service is Springfield-Branson National Airport 50 miles northwest of Branson. That airport is totally owned by Springfield, Missouri.

In the celebration prior to the May 2009 event the EAA AirVenture Oshkosh has scheduled air show at the airport. [http://broadcast.branson.com/2008/08/12/branson-airport-announces-grand-opening-air-show/]
