2005 the team changed its name to the Hamilton Thunderbirds. The name change came to be whenMel Oswald , CEO of the Canadian Thunderbirds Elite Baseball Club, bought the Hamilton Cardinals onJanuary 1 ,2005 . The "new" Thunderbirds played their first game with the new name onMay 8 ,2005 , defeating theStratford Storm 14-7.Championships
The Hamilton Cardinals had played 1,490 games with a record of 525 wins and 965 losses before becoming the Thunderbirds, winning the Intercounty title in 1978.
