United States Census Bureau , the township has a total area of 34.1square mile s (88.2km² ), of which, 33.5 square miles (86.7 km²) of it is land and 0.6 square miles (1.5 km²) of it (1.70%) is water.Demographics

census GR|2 of 2000, there were 2,974 people, 1,157 households, and 877 families residing in the township. Thepopulation density was 88.8 people per square mile (34.3/km²). There were 1,270 housing units at an average density of 37.9/sq mi (14.6/km²). The racial makeup of the township was 97.92% White, 0.94% African American, 0.27% Native American, 0.10% Asian, 0.07% Pacific Islander, 0.10% from other races, and 0.61% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.54% of the population.There were 1,157 households out of which 32.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 57.9% were married couples living together, 13.0% had a female householder with no husband present, and 24.2% were non-families. 21.9% of all households were made up of individuals and 10.2% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.57 and the average family size was 2.96.
In the township the population was spread out with 24.7% under the age of 18, 8.8% from 18 to 24, 27.7% from 25 to 44, 25.1% from 45 to 64, and 13.6% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 37 years. For every 100 females there were 93.0 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 91.9 males.
The median income for a household in the township was $24,167, and the median income for a family was $29,182. Males had a median income of $28,317 versus $18,221 for females. The
per capita income for the township was $12,360. About 22.3% of families and 28.0% of the population were below thepoverty line , including 42.0% of those under age 18 and 5.8% of those age 65 or over.References
