(2008)"Stronger Woman" is the title of a single released by American singer Jewel. Her first release to the country music format, it is also the first single from her album "Perfectly Clear", which was produced by John Rich of the country duo Big & Rich and released on the Valory imprint of Big Machine Records. In May 2008, the song reached its peak at #13 on the "Billboard" Hot Country Songs charts.

Release and reception

The single was released to iTunes exclusively on February 5, and officially sent to US radio on February 11, 2008. In late January, in its first week of unofficial release, Stronger Woman entered the "Billboard" Hot Country Songs chart at #50. Critical reception

Music video

The music video was filmed in Nashville. In an interview, she said "The video will use visual metaphors to portray how women have in a way been responsible for binding and restricting themselves". According to PhiladelphiaAtHome.com, the video portrays four women from different areas and time periods with close-ups of what they do to restrict themselves. One woman is a geisha with tiny bound feet tittering elegantly on tiny shoes. Another is a Victorian woman being cinched into an hourglass corset and a middle Eastern woman in beautiful colorful veils, with nothing showing but her exotic eyes, with Jewel in between singing and wearing representation of these women. Jewel starts to take off each of the things that binds her -- the glittery earrings, the bracelets, the belt, the stilettos. At the same time each of the previous women starts to reveal a more natural self. Jewel says the video ends with her barefoot in a simple slip dress, hair down, playing guitar -- an uninhibited stronger woman.
