The Green Globe Company Standard is the Standard of the overall Green Globe programme which deals specifically with companies wishing to become benchmarked and/or certified under the Green Globe programme. This aspect is designed for organisations within the travel and tourism industry and sets out the criteria to attain certification. It provides an environmental management framework for organisations, as part of the process to achieve certification.
Company Process
The Green Globe Company Standard has two distinct steps, firstly Benchmarking (Bronze) and then Certification (Silver).
The benchmarking stage takes approximately 4 - 6 months, and involves the following two steps of the Company Standard:
# Policy - The company or organisation must establish a Sustainability Policy
# Benchmarking - this involves a company completing a Benchmarking Assessment.
Once these initial steps are complete, organisations or companies will be assessed under set criteria in order to achieve 'Benchmarked' (Bronze) status.
The next stage of the process involves completing the last four steps of the programme using an online based self assessment tool:
# Compliance - The Company must be seen to comply with all relevant legislation governing its operations, and policy requirements
# Approach - Engage an environmental and socially sustainable approach for the organisation or companies future
# Performance - Document performance outcomes of the company or organisations
# Communication - The company or organisation is to communicate with interested and relevant parties regarding its sustainability.
Completing these aspects, organisations will be assessed under set criteria so as to achieve "Certified" (Silver) status, which typically takes 10 - 24 months to achieve.
Finally, organisations that have achieved certification for a period of five or more years are accredited with the Green Globe Certified (Gold) logo.
