ssam " (meaning "food wrapped in a leaf"), hence "sauce for food wrapped in a leaf." [Although leaf lettuce is the most typical wrapping for "ssam", other leaves, such asperilla leaves, may also be used. "Galbi " is the most common form of "ssam", but rice may also be wrapped in such a manner.]References
