Baron Belasyse

Baron Belasyse

The title Baron Belasyse has been created twice in the Peerage of England.

The first, Baron Belasyse of Worlaby in the County of Lincoln, was created in 27 January 1645 for John Belasyse, second son of the first Baron Fauconberg. The Belasyse barony became extinct upon the death of the second baron, Henry Belasyse, the first baron's grandson, in 1691.

The second, Baroness Belasyse of Osgodby in the County of Lincoln, a rare life peerage, was created on 1 April 1674 for Susan Belasyse, widow of Sir Henry Belasyse, KB, the eldest son of the first Baron Belasyse (who was killed in a duel before he could succeed his father) and mother of the second baron. As a life peerage, the Belasyse barony of Osgodby expired on her death in 1713. Lady Belasyse was the daughter of Sir William Airmine, 2nd Baronet.
