- Alegranza
Alegranza is an island situated in the
Atlantic Ocean located to the coast ofAfrica and is in the province of Las Palmas next to the province ofSanta Cruz de Tenerife in theCanary Islands , an autonomous region ofSpain and is the northernmost point in the Canary Islands (in the area near Jameo Mosegue). The island is part of Parque Natural de Archipiélago Chinijo (Lanzarote ) or theChinijo Archipelago Natural Park, a reserve of Los Islotes.Geographical overview
The area is 10.2 km². There are no inhabitants on the island.
The lighthouse of Punta Delgada is located in the eastern part of Alegranza, it was first built in 1865. The island was part of the Bien de Interés Cultural on December 20, 2002. The island features a caldera with a crater of about 1.1 km in diameter and an altitude of 289 m. The second highest is Montaña de Lobos at 256 m and following La Rapagura. The northern portion is mainly flat.
History
Its name, derived from the Spanish word for "joy," is, according to some scholars, was given by

The island is part of the municipality of Teguise on Lanzarote.
