Madariaga European Foundation

Madariaga European Foundation is an organisation which aims to promote the working models of the European Union (EU) throughout Europe. It is named after the Spanish diplomat and writer Salvador de Madariaga. Its president is the EU foreign policy chief, and grandson of Madariaga, Javier Solana. It was founded in 1998 by former students of the College of Europe.

They organised their activities around two pillars: health and conflict prevention.

They follow many projects:

-the Anna Lindh Programme on Conflict Prevention, that is about to issue in September its third edition on ‘Conflict Prevention and Health’. Main contributors are Hans Blix, Commissioner Kyprianou and prominent academics.

-Preventive Diplomacy is developed in partnership with the Folke Bernadotte Academy. The first workshop has taken place in March 2006 and gathered diplomats from member states and the European Union with the support of the Austrian Presidency.

-The Centre for Health, Ethics and Society (CHES) is a successful project consisting on roundtables allowing discussion between key stakeholders from the European Union, business and academia.

-The European Dementia Consensus Network (EDCON) presents communications directed towards the European institutions in the field of dementia.
