The school is a function of theRoman Catholic Diocese of Tulsa and operates in the Lasallian tradition of the Brothers of the Christian Schools (Christian Brothers). The school is named forBishop Francis Kelley , the second bishop of Oklahoma. Though founded in 1960, it is often thought of as the institutional heir to earlier, previously dissolved Catholic high schools in Midtown and downtown Tulsa, including Holy Family High School and Marquette High School.Kelley is a comprehensive secondary school with a curriculum that is primarily college preparatory. More than 25 middle schools send students to Bishop Kelley. Consistent with its LaSallian mission, the course offerings reflect the needs of a student body that is diverse in terms of both abilities and interests. There is an application process for admission. Transfer students must submit an application and have an interview prior to acceptance. Bishop Kelley is only one of two Roman Catholic high schools in the Diocese of Tulsa and one of four in the state of Oklahoma.
Bishop Kelley serves Catholic and non-Catholic families in Tulsa and the surrounding communities who seek a college preparatory program within a Christian environment of concern, trust, and growth. Consistently, more than 70% of the entering freshman students have matriculated through the Catholic elementary system.
Activities
The school is noted for the academic achievements of its students and alumni and its first-rate athletic program. The school has won more state championships than any other school of its size in Oklahoma, including state championships in baseball, football, soccer, softball, volleyball, basketball, tennis, golf and track. Many of these athletes continue playing in college. The school is also a perennial contender for and frequent winner of state championships in speech and debate, academic bowl, and robotics competitions.
