[cite web |url=http://www.env-econ.net/2008/01/top-journals-in.html |title=www.env-econ.net ]Established in 1925 by the founder of the American Economic Association, Richard T. Ely at the University of Wisconsin, Land Economics specializes in publishing innovative, conceptual, and empirical research of direct relevance to economists. The journal offers international applied research on such topics as transportation, energy, urban and rural land use, housing, environmental quality, public utilities, and natural resources. The journal eschews highly technical theoretical articles and emphasizes applied and empirical research, clearly explained.
In addition to regular articles, Land Economics also publishes comments on articles previously published in the journal, along with replies from the original author. There are also book reviews for selected recently released books and a full list of books received.
For three decades, the editor of Land Economics has been Daniel W. Bromley [http://www.aae.wisc.edu/dbromley/] , the Anderson-Bascom Professor of Applied Economics at the
University of Wisconsin–Madison . Bromley was selected as a Fellow of theAssociation of Environmental and Resource Economics in 2007.Back issues of Land Economics beginning with volume 24 (1948) are available online at academic and public libraries and research institutions that subscribe to the

The
ISI Web of Knowledge allows the user to rank all articles in a specified journal according to the number of times they have been cited. For articles published in Land Economics between 1965 and 2007, the following table shows all papers with cumulative publications of at least forty, ranked by total number of citations as of 15 February 2008. Citations per year are also provided, since newer articles will not have as many cumulative citations.Rank Title, Author(s), Vol. (No.), Pages, Year Total Cites Per Year 1 "Recreation demand models with taste differences over people," Train KE, Vol. 74(2) 230-239, 1998 145 13.18 2 "VALIDATION OF EMPIRICAL MEASURES OF WELFARE CHANGE - A COMPARISON OF NONMARKET TECHNIQUES," SELLER C, STOLL JR, CHAVAS JP, Vol. 61(2) 156-175, 1985 131 5.46 3 "VALUING ENVIRONMENTAL COMMODITIES - SOME RECENT EXPERIMENTS," SCHULZE WD, DARGE RC, BROOKSHIRE DS, Vol. 57(2) 151-172, 1981 121 4.32 4 "CONFIDENCE-INTERVALS FOR EVALUATING BENEFITS ESTIMATES FROM DICHOTOMOUS CHOICE CONTINGENT VALUATION STUDIES," PARK T, LOOMIS JB, CREEL M, Vol. 67(1) 64-73, 1991 114 6.33 5 "HYPOTHETICAL SURVEYS AND REAL ECONOMIC COMMITMENTS," NEILL HR, CUMMINGS RG, GANDERTON PT, et al., Vol. 70(2) 145-154, 1994 111 7.4 6 "PROPERTY-RIGHTS REGIMES AND NATURAL-RESOURCES - A CONCEPTUAL ANALYSIS," SCHLAGER E, OSTROM E, Vol. 68(3) 249-262, 1992 107 6.29 7 "MEASURING THE EXISTENCE VALUE OF WILDLIFE - WHAT DO CVM ESTIMATES REALLY SHOW," STEVENS TH, ECHEVERRIA J, GLASS RJ, et al., Vol. 67(4) 390-400, 1991 106 6.24 8 "VALUING OPTION, EXISTENCE, AND BEQUEST DEMANDS FOR WILDERNESS," WALSH RG, LOOMIS JB, GILLMAN RA, Vol. 60(1) 14-29, 1984 103 4.12 9 "A CRITICAL-REVIEW OF THE INDIVIDUAL QUOTA AS A DEVICE IN FISHERIES MANAGEMENT," COPES P, Vol. 62(3) 278-291, 1986 94 4.09 10 "PRICE ELASTICITIES FOR WATER - CASE OF INCREASING BLOCK RATES," BILLINGS RB, AGTHE DE, Vol. 56(1) 73-84, 1980 94 3.24 11 "VALUE OF TIME IN RECREATION BENEFIT STUDIES," CESARIO FJ, Vol. 52(1) 32-41, 1976 93 2.82 12 "Contingent valuation and revealed preference methodologies: Comparing the estimates for quasi-public goods," Carson RT, Flores NE, Martin KM, et al., Vol. 72(1) 80-99, 1996 92 7.08 13 "Which response format reveals the truth about donations to a public good?," Brown TC, Champ PA, Bishop RC, et al., Vol. 72(2) 152-166, 1996 91 7 14 "A NONPARAMETRIC APPROACH TO THE ESTIMATION OF WELFARE MEASURES IN DISCRETE RESPONSE VALUATION STUDIES," KRISTROM B, Vol. 66(2) 135-139, 1990 91 4.79 15 "ESTIMATING OPTION PRICES AND EXISTENCE VALUES FOR WILDLIFE RESOURCES," BROOKSHIRE DS, EUBANKS LS, RANDALL A, Vol. 59(1) 1-15, 1983 86 3.31 16 "FACTORS AFFECTING THE USE OF SOIL CONSERVATION PRACTICES - HYPOTHESES, EVIDENCE, AND POLICY IMPLICATIONS," ERVIN CA, ERVIN DE, Vol. 58(3) 277-292, 1982 84 3.11 17 "MICRO-NEIGHBORHOOD EXTERNALITIES AND HEDONIC HOUSING PRICES," LI MM, BROWN HJ, Vol. 56(2) 125-141, 1980 83 2.86 18 "Why do firms volunteer to exceed environmental regulations?
