As of the
census GR|2 of 2000, there were 1,491 people, 636 households, and 445 families residing in the CDP. Thepopulation density was 900.7 people per square mile (346.8/km²). There were 697 housing units at an average density of 421.0/sq mi (162.1/km²). The racial makeup of the CDP was 98.99% White, 0.27% Asian, and 0.74% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.40% of the population.There were 636 households out of which 27.2% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 52.2% were married couples living together, 13.4% had a female householder with no husband present, and 30.0% were non-families. 26.3% of all households were made up of individuals and 11.9% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.34 and the average family size was 2.80.
In the CDP the population was spread out with 23.5% under the age of 18, 6.2% from 18 to 24, 27.8% from 25 to 44, 24.4% from 45 to 64, and 18.1% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 39 years. For every 100 females there were 94.6 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 88.9 males.
The median income for a household in the CDP was $24,342, and the median income for a family was $33,895. Males had a median income of $26,853 versus $18,882 for females. The
per capita income for the CDP was $12,645. About 16.2% of families and 21.4% of the population were below thepoverty line , including 43.8% of those under age 18 and 9.8% of those age 65 or over.References
