He has been the Member of Parliament for the riding ofPrince George—Peace River since 1993 and is the Chief Government Whip in theCanadian House of Commons .Before entering politics, Hill had served as the president of the B.C. Grain Producers Association, and as the Director for Grain with the B.C. Federation of Agriculture.
As an elected member of the
Parliament of Canada of theReform Party of Canada since 1993, Hill has generally voted along official party lines. He has also opposed changes to divorce laws that would reduce the amount of time divorced fathers spend with their children, and has attempted to help refugees get admitted to Canada. Additionally, Hill has called for an inquiry into theCanadian Security Intelligence Service 's role in the 1985 Air India bombing. Generally, he is viewed as a right wing Conservative, he has repeatedly called all Government surpluses overtaxation.Hill was one of seven
Canadian Alliance Members of Parliament ejected from caucus for questioning the abilities of then-leaderStockwell Day .Hill has served in various roles for his party, including
Chief Whip as well as the opposition critic for national defence, transport and justice ministries. He is the only MP to have served as Whip for two different parties.One of Hill's private members bills will be incorporated into the latest federal budget. His bill called for tax breaks for couples who adopt children.
