Rose Elizabeth Espinosa is a Salvadoran American
news reporter who currently can be seen on the "KTLA Morning Show ", the morning news broadcast of Los Angeles' CW affiliateKTLA channel 5. Espinosa spent five years as one of the staple correspondents on "Good Day L.A. ", the morning news broadcast of Los Angeles Fox affiliateKTTV . Before joining KTTV, Espinosa spent two years atK-MEX channel 34, the flagship station ofUnivision , in Los Angeles as a Spanish language reporter/anchor. Prior to KMEX, Elizabeth was reporting and anchoring forXETV 6, the San Diego Fox affiliate. She was part of the news team that launched a three-hour morning show and mid-day newscast. Aside from producing and enterprising investigative stories, she also hosted a weekly movie review segment on the "Fox Morning Show".She's also spent part of her career in the Bay Area working as a television news reporter for Telemundo's O&O San Francisco/San Jose/Oakland affiliate. In 1998, Elizabeth was hired as assignment desk editor at another station in Los Angeles,
KVEA 52 Telemundo. Following that assignment, she was promoted and accepted a position as the West Coast producer for "Ocurrio Asi," an international news magazine show.Espinosa is one of few television journalists in the country who has been able to cross over from Spanish to English television successfully.
Born and raised in Los Angeles, California, Espinosa graduated from
UCLA in 1997 earning a degree inPolitical Science with a concentration inInternational Relations .In 2005 Espinosa traveled to
Uganda andRwanda where she interviewed child warriors for anEmmy award winning half hour special report she co-produced and co-hosted. The next year Espinosa traveled to Pakistan to interview women aboutarranged marriages inIslamabad ,Lahore , andPeshawar -anAl-Qaeda stronghold. In 2006, she also produced and hosted a special report about disabled and abandoned children inEl Salvador .Espinosa credits much of her success to the challenges she’s faced growing up with a severely disabled younger brother. As a result, Espinosa is a strong advocate for the rights of the disabled and works tirelessly with various different community groups and non-profit organizations, such as
Ability First and HOLA (Heart of Los Angeles).In light of Elizabeth’s extensive past and ongoing volunteer work for the community, the oldest and first Latino non-profit organization MAOF (Mexican American Opportunity Foundation) bestowed Espinosa with their top honor, Woman of the Year award in 2007. That same year, Los Angeles Mayor
Antonio Villaraigosa and the city council honored Elizabeth for her support and work of “Operation Confidence”, a committee to help the disabled population in hurricane ravagedNew Orleans rebuild their lives. Prior to that, HOLA awarded Espinosa with their prestigious award “Voice of Los Angeles”.AIMSA , an international non-profit aimed at offering aid to impoverished women and children in El Salvador awarded Elizabeth Espinosa with their top honor, “2004 Woman of the Year in Television”. Elizabeth Espinosa has also received many other accolades and special recognitions for her work from state leaders and several community organizations such as HAPCOA (Hispanic Police Command Officers Association).Espinosa speaks French, Italian, Spanish, and American Sign Language and is a world traveler.
