Tropical Storm Fran

Tropical Storm Fran

The name Fran was used for four tropical cyclones in the Atlantic Ocean.
* 1973's Hurricane Fran - formed and remained out at sea.
* 1984's Tropical Storm Fran - formed close enough to Cape Verde to cause tropical storm-force winds there, but otherwise threatened no land.
* 1990's Tropical Storm Fran - formed near Cape Verde; it passed between Trinidad and Venezuela, losing strength rapidly and causing no significant damage.
* 1996's Hurricane Fran - made landfall near Cape Fear, North Carolina at Category 3, killing 26 and causing $3.2 billion in damages.

The name Fran was retired after the 1996 season, and was replaced by Fay in the 2002 season.

The name Fran was also used for nine tropical cyclones in the Western Pacific:
* 1950's Typhoon Fran
* 1955's Typhoon Fran
* 1959's Tropical Depression Fran (1959 TD 13) (Japan Meteorological Agency analyzed it as a tropical depression, not as a tropical storm.)
* 1962's Tropical Storm Fran (1962 TS 02)
* 1964's Tropical Storm Fran (1964 TS 38)
* 1967's Tropical Storm Fran (1967 TS 14)
* 1970's Tropical Storm Fran (1970 TS 16)
* 1973's Tropical Storm Fran (1973 TS 07)
* 1976's Super Typhoon Fran (1976 STY 17) - hit southwestern Japan and caused heavy flooding and wind damage.
