Trinity School (Carlisle)
- Trinity School (Carlisle)
Trinity School is a comprehensive school in Carlisle, Cumbria. It is a specialist language college for ages 11-18. It was named from the joining of three schools.
History
The school has a long history: in 2007 there was a school in Carlisle for Christians founded by St Cuthbert. It was not Trinity, of course, but the plaque by the door of the Carliol building notes the tradition of learning, based on Christian teaching, which was established all those years ago.
Trinity also has a short history: in 1968, the Carlisle Grammar School, the Creighton School for Boys and the Margaret Sewell School for Girls joined together to form Trinity School. Even since then, there have been substantial changes to the buildings, and to its character, as the school became a Language College and the focus for Adult Education in the city.
Curriculum
At both GCSE and A level, the school produces results slightly above the England average.
Facilities
It has a swimming pool and fitness centre. The school is having a £20m investment to rebuild it by September 2010. The school has around 1900 students, with 400 in the sixth form.
