Dopey Dick

Dopey Dick was a killer whale that swam into the River Foyle system Northern Ireland in November 1977.cite web|url=http://www.bbc.co.uk/northernireland/radiofoyle/dopeydick/|title=A whale of a time|publisher=BBC Radio Foyle|accessdate=2008-06-14] The whale was an adult male that entered the river Foyle in pursuit of a late salmon run. He was first spotted by locals and received huge media attention at the time, being hailed as a welcome distraction for everyone one in the then-troubled city of Derry. He was named Dopey Dick because of his inability to find his own way back to sea.
