college football atHarvard University and was part of the Harvard Crimson football team that won the 1920 Rose Bowl against theUniversity of Oregon .NFL career
Playing under the name B. McMahon, [cite web | work=Arizona Cardinals official site | url=http://www.azcardinals.com/history/index.php | title=Franchise history | accessdate=2008-02-10] Horween started playing professional football a year after the NFL was founded. He played for the Chicago Cardinals from 1921 to 1923.
Life after football
After retiring from football, Horween returned to Harvard, where he would earn a Law degree. He later had a law practice and helped founded a business that has supplied the leather for the footballs used in the NFL.
