United States Census Bureau , the borough has a total area of 2.0 square miles (5.2km² ), of which, 1.9 square miles (4.8 km²) of it is land and 0.1 square miles (0.4 km²) of it (7.00%) is water.Demographics
As of the
census GR|2 of 2000, there were 4,114 people, 1,824 households, and 1,156 families residing in the borough. Thepopulation density was 2,212.2 people per square mile (854.0/km²). There were 1,932 housing units at an average density of 1,038.9/sq mi (401.0/km²). The racial makeup of the borough was 97.91% White, 0.34% African American, 0.12% Native American, 0.32% Asian, 0.49% from other races, and 0.83% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 0.83% of the population.There were 1,824 households out of which 25.7% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 50.7% were married couples living together, 9.1% had a female householder with no husband present, and 36.6% were non-families. 31.9% of all households were made up of individuals and 16.9% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.26 and the average family size was 2.82.
In the borough the population was spread out with 21.1% under the age of 18, 7.2% from 18 to 24, 27.8% from 25 to 44, 23.4% from 45 to 64, and 20.6% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 40 years. For every 100 females there were 88.8 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 84.1 males.
The median income for a household in the borough was $37,683, and the median income for a family was $50,957. Males had a median income of $37,650 versus $22,308 for females. The

The Hamburg Area has many interesting places to see and things to do, most of which are associated with the outdoors. The many small trout streams,
Schuylkill River , Kernsville Dam, and the Kaercher Creek Park provide the area with ample room for fishing. The state game lands on the Appalachian Mountain, locally know as the Blue Mountain, just north of town provide an excellent opportunity for hunting. Also within the state game lands is theAppalachian Trail . This section of trail is home to two outcroppings, namely the Pinnacle and Pulpit Rock, which provide a breathtaking view of eastern Berks County.References
