It was home to theFleetwood Metal Body company, anautomobile coachbuilder purchased byFisher Body and integrated into General Motors in 1931. Fleetwood is located at coor dms|40|27|17|N|75|49|8|W|city (40.454793, -75.818821)GR|1. According to the
United States Census Bureau , the borough has a total area of 1.0square mile s (2.7km² ), all of it land.Demographics
As of the
census GR|2 of 2000, there were 4,018 people, 1,584 households, and 1,124 families residing in the borough. Thepopulation density was 3,859.7 people per square mile (1,491.7/km²). There were 1,623 housing units at an average density of 1,559.1/sq mi (602.5/km²). The racial makeup of the borough was 97.81% White, 0.27% African American, 0.40% Asian, 0.97% from other races, and 0.55% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1.72% of the population.There were 1,584 households out of which 33.4% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 60.9% were married couples living together, 7.4% had a female householder with no husband present, and 29.0% were non-families. 22.9% of all households were made up of individuals and 11.0% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.53 and the average family size was 3.00.
In the borough the population was spread out with 24.8% under the age of 18, 7.1% from 18 to 24, 31.6% from 25 to 44, 20.9% from 45 to 64, and 15.6% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 37 years. For every 100 females there were 93.9 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 90.2 males.
The median income for a household in the borough was $48,621, and the median income for a family was $60,051. Males had a median income of $39,559 versus $26,321 for females. The
per capita income for the borough was $21,600. About 2.5% of families and 2.8% of the population were below thepoverty line , including 3.5% of those under age 18 and 8.1% of those age 65 or over.Education
The community is served by the Fleetwood Area School District, which operates Fleetwood Area High School, Fleetwood Area Middle School, and three elementary schools: Andrew Maier Elementary School, Richmond Elementary School, and Fleetwood Elementary School. Due to an increasing population, The Fleetwood Area School District is in the process of constructing their 4th elementary school which will be called Willow Creek Elementary.
