It was originally published and described byN. E. Brown in 1901. It grows on wet, mossy rocks or banks in swamps and around low tree trunks and branches and sometimes in the water-filled leaf axils of thebromeliad "Brocchinia " species. It is typically found at altitudes around convert|2000|m|ft|0|lk=on|abbr=on, but has been recoreded from altitudes of convert|1400|m|ft|0|abbr=on to convert|2800|m|ft|0|abbr=on, the highest collections representing specimens fromRoraima .Taylor, Peter.
