Edward Worsfold Mowll

Edward Worsfold Mowll (1881 - 1964) was the fourth Bishop of Middleton [The Times, Monday, Aug 02, 1943; pg. 6; Issue 49613; col C E "New Bishop Suffragan Of Middleton"] . Educated at The Kings School, Canterbury and Jesus College, Cambridge , he was ordained in 1905 and after a curacy at Leyton became secretary of the "Church Pastoral-Aid Society". Incumbencies at Benwell , Southport and Oxford followed [Who was Who1897-1990 London, A & C Black, 1991 ISBN 071363457X] before becoming Provost of Bradford Cathedral in 1933. Elevation to the Episcopate followed ten years later and he stayed in this, his final post, until retirement in 1951.
