Beaver River Trail

The Beaver River Trail is a rail trail located in the city of Beaver Falls, Pennsylvania, USA. Completed in 2006, the trail is the first rail trail to be built in Beaver County. [ [http://www.post-gazette.com/pg/06117/685387-57.stm] "Pittsburgh Post-Gazette", 2006-04-27. Accessed 2008-02-09.]

History

The Beaver River Trail was built over an old right-of-way of the now defunct Pittsburgh and Lake Erie Railroad in downtown Beaver Falls. The line was bypassed for a newer route closer to the Beaver River and was abandoned, along with many industrial plants that were served by the railroad.

Future extension

Phase I of the trail was completed in 2006, but Phase II is still in the planning stages. The extension will run north under the Eastvale Bridge and then passing the College Hill Station and Geneva College. The ultimate goal is to connect the trail with the North Country Trail near Wampum, PA, which will allow growth and recreation to increase in the Beaver River Valley.
