- Longstone railway station
Longstone railway station was a station which served Great and Little Longstone in the
Peak District ofDerbyshire . It was built in 1863 by theMidland Railway on its extension of theManchester, Buxton, Matlock and Midlands Junction Railway fromRowsley .Originally known as "Longstone", in 1913, it was renamed Great Longstone for Ashford (Ashford in the Water). Once the Midland reached
Manchester the line carried expresses to London St Pancras and heavy mineral traffic.It closed in 1962, but the building, designed to match the nearby
Thornbridge Hall , survives as a domestic residence, and the trackbed through the station is part of the 8.5 mileMonsal Trail , a walk and cycleway.
