Systems' Approach (astrology)

The Systems' Approach for Interpreting Horoscopes is the title of a book by V.K. Choudhry, a well-known author on Indian astrology. The approach is now also referred to as SA in the modern literature of the subject. SA has been used to a significant extent in mundane astrology investigations. National charts have been rectified for a number of countries and discussed on a special discussion list ( [http://groups.yahoo.com/group/samva SAMVA] ). The approach

Astrology, the ancient wisdom, helps us in understanding the potentialities and weaknesses of our personality to enable us to charter the course of success in our life in the matters of health, career, love, relationships and finances. The horoscopic influences are studied through the placements of planets and the conjunctions and other aspects they make. These influences are read in terms of the strength of the planets, both for the planetary periods ("dasa" and "bhukti") and the current planetary influences (transit). Importantly, the reading is made with reference to the ascending sign worked out on the basis of the birth date, time and place. The aspects help us in identifying the auspicious and inauspicious planetary configurations. The placement of a planet links the significations of the house ruled by it with the significations of its house of placement. A planet owning the 6th, 8th or 12th house becomes a functional malefic planet and is capable of afflicting other placements in the chart. An afflicted planet indicates suffering through the significations ruled by the said planet. The blessed ones are impelled by the divine forces for making use of the ultimate knowledge of astrological remedial measures ("Jyotish Remedies") - both propitiating malefic planets and strengthening weak planets through Kavach or Gems. Controversy

As with most new ideas that challenge traditional approaches, there has been a modicum of controversy about SA among orthodox vedic astrologers. Over time SA has become increasingly accepted as a new branch of vedic astrology with better efficacy and accuracy.
